Intensity and delicacy – Icon wine
Futa means “big and magnificent” in Mapudungún, the indigenous Chilean Mapuche language. This wine brings together the determination of the Hurtado family and the talent of Eric Boissenot to achieve a World class Cabernet Sauvignon, with a style marked by its freshness and elegance.

Tasting notes
Intense aromas but not overwhelming, marked by fresh fruits like Blackcherry and some hints of Raspberry. Also it’s possible to find notes of blackcurrants, cacao nibs and even dry coconut. Tertiary aromas have started to develop due to the age of the wine, creating a complex profile with subtle touch of leather and tobacco leaves in the nose. The palate stands out for its structure and depth due to the elegant softness of its tannins. Futa is a very concentrated wine, fresh and elegant with a long and persistent finish.

You can drink it now (2022) but we are sure this wine has many more great years ahead of it where more tertiary aromas would develop. We recommend you to pair Futa Cabernet Sauvignon with red meat, cheese plate or with a nice mushroom risotto.
Some decanting can help enhance the fruit aromas if you open it 30 to 40min before drinking it.

Description

Calcu Futa Cabernet Sauvignon 2009

Futa Cabernet Sauvignon 2009 represents the most elegant expression of CALCU. The grapes were harvested from the finest vineyards owned by the Hurtado family on their Marchigue Estate. The winemaking process preserved the full glory and majesty of the Terroir.

Winery Calcu

Calcu, which means “healing doctor” in the local Mapuche language. Calcu emphasizes the diversity of Chile’s Colchagua Valley. The fruit is always a combination of the family’s estate fruit, and locally sourced, sustainable grapes from quality Colchagua growers. Like the playful bull on the label by the talented young Chilean artist who painted him. Calcu produces exuberant wines that are fresh and fruity, but also elegant.
